HA-HA

HA-HA is a contemporary Australian artist whose work critically examines the forces shaping 21st-century life: the pervasive influence of mass media, the emerging realities of artificial intelligence, the quasi-religious devotion to sport, economic disparity, and the digital transformation of labor.

His practice is rooted in the observation of popular culture. Sourcing imagery directly from the digital landscape or through original photography, HA-HA captures the essence of the contemporary moment. Through meticulously hand-cut, multi-layered stencils—created without digital aid—he produces striking, lifelike compositions. This physical process is often extended into the digital realm through integrated augmented reality, creating a dialogue between traditional craft and modern technology.

A self-taught artist who began his career creating street art, HA-HA has since established a significant presence in the gallery sphere. With a prolific exhibition history spanning over two decades, he has presented more than twenty solo shows both nationally and internationally. He is represented by galleries across Australia.

His work is held in major public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, the State Library of Victoria, the City of Melbourne, Artbank, and BHP Billiton, as well as private collections across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, and South East Asia.
